Our Internal Organization for Cultural Heritage Disaster Risk Management

The Cultural Heritage Disaster Risk Management Center is headquartered in the Nara , the ancient capital of Japan. The Center broadly divides Japan into eastern and western sectors to streamline initial responses during disasters and optimize information sharing and collaboration. The administrative center in eastern Japan is the Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, and the administrative center in western Japan is the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties.
Our project team is made up of specialists from six institutions, comprising two research institutes and four national museums. The Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties and Tokyo National Museum are in eastern Japan. The Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, Kyoto National Museum, Nara National Museum, and Kyushu National Museum are in western Japan. Mutual cooperation across these institutions allows us to work on many initiatives for cultural heritage disaster risk management, including inter-institutional studies, building regional disaster risk management networks for our respective regions, and providing emergency support during disasters.
